If Next Media still existed, far fewer people would have fallen prey to the scams of 七仙羽. The Next Magazine, which published an interview of hers (in which she went by her real name Chiu Ling) in 2004, would have exposed her even before she became popular. She would not have successfully constructed her persona, which, though full of discrepancies and sounding utterly incredible, did attract a huge following in Hong Kong. Regardless of your politics and your views of its founder Jimmy Lai 黎智英, who is widely deemed a political prisoner, you cannot convincingly deny the important role played by Next Media.

One should note that Qi’s “memoir,” published in 2004, was her attempt to ride the wave of popularity of erotic fiction (“erotica”) in the early 2000s. One famous writer back then was Wei Hui, whose semi-autobiographical Shanghai Baby banned in China and sold many copies in the underground market and in the Western world. I have not read Qi’s book. According to two seasoned journalists who are excellent at spotting liars (see the screen shot), Qi’s story as well as her persona was very likely made up.
I wonder what happened after Qi’s interview in 2004 and before news about her surfaced again around 2015-2019, in which she already led a life of luxury. She did not find fame through a successful feng shui industry during this period, or else I would have heard of her much earlier on and well before she appeared in ViuTV’s shows in 2020. Given Her “husband” or “partner” Gerald Alserda was still married to Michelle Chan in 2013, it was not very likely for her to have acquired her wealth through her marriage to Alserda. Did she become some wealthy businessman’s mistress during that period to turn her life around?
如果壹周刊仍然存在，極少數香港人會跌入七仙羽的騙局 。很簡單，因為壹周刊在2004年曾經刊登趙玲 (七仙羽真名) 訪問，假設周刊仍在，一早已經撕破其虛假面具，令大眾早早發現其故事自相矛盾。只要七仙羽的人設不成立，她便不可能有如此多追隨者！不論你的政治立場如何，對廣為西方政界與傳媒視為政治犯的壹傳媒創辦人黎智英有甚麼看法，到底還是不能有力地否定壹傳媒擔當的社會角色。
必須留意的，為趙玲/七仙羽2004年所謂“自傳”，是其企圖趁當年–即千禧年代–情色小說熱潮盛行年代，分一杯羹的出品。當年一位很著名的表表者就是衛慧，其半自傳小說“上海寶貝” (1999) 於中國大陸成為禁書，但在當地黑市卻售出很多本，在西方國家更是大賣。雖然我沒有看過趙玲的著作，但根據兩位資深傳媒人 (看以上YOUTUBE影片的截圖)讀後感想，趙的故事很大可能是完全虛構的。
我猜想：由2004年開始，趙玲以窮記者身接受訪問，到 2014-2019 年左右，有關她的新聞零星地在媒體出現，她表現得很富貴模樣，這十數年間究竟發生了甚麼事？她於此段期間，似乎沒有發展成功的風水事業，也沒有以風水賺得名氣，假若她於2020年於ViuTV出現前，已經是著名風水師，我便一早會聽過她大名罷。由於其“丈夫”或“伴侶” Gerald Alserda 於2013年的訪問中透露，太太還是 Michelle Chan，趙玲不可能透過跟 Alserda 結婚變得富有。難道她在2004至2020年左右，成為有米人士的情婦，因此獲得財當？
